What is General Spirituality?

Many people today describe themselves as spiritual rather than religious.

It often encourages individuals to slow down, ask meaningful questions and develop greater awareness of themselves and others.

Its openness also allows people from different cultures and backgrounds to learn from one another without feeling bound to a single tradition.

For many, spirituality becomes an important first step in exploring life’s deeper questions.

Questions That Often Remain Open

Precisely because general spirituality is so open, many fundamental questions receive different answers—or no definite answer at all.

For example:

• What exactly is the Spirit?
• Is the creator personal or impersonal?
• Can human beings communicate directly with the creator?
• Is there a shared purpose for humanity?
• Can there be a common ethical framework for everyone?

Different spiritual traditions respond to these questions in different ways, and many intentionally leave them open for personal interpretation.
